Social Security Medical Examinations
Serving all of California
In order to determine your medical condition, Social Security might require you to attend what is called a consultative examination. This involves an evaluation by a doctor chosen by Social Security and may include various tests and examinations such as c-rays and blood tests which relate to one or more of your specific medical complaints
The Doctor Makes No Conclusions
The Social Security doctor cannot prescribe treatment for you and will not perform a full general examination. The doctor’s job is to merely submit a report of the results of his evaluation to Social Security. He will not have a say in deciding whether you are eligible for disability benefits. This decision is made only by the judge. Social Security must cover all costs for these examinations and upon your request, will also pay your traveling expenses, if any. You will not be responsible for any expenses
You Must Go to This Appointment
If Social Security does request that you undergo an evaluation by a doctor of their choice, you must attend the examination and cooperate complete with the doctor. If you do not attend, Social Security Can deny your case.
