Hematological Disorder Listings are Changing
In an effort to modernize and boost the accuracy of the current hematological disorder listings, which have been in place since 1985, the Social Security Administration (SSA) has proposed changes to the listings. The SSA’s proposed changes to hematological disorder listings include:
-A revised and expanded introduction to the listings.
-Changing the classification structure of the listings to a broad category structure featuring 4 category headings:
1. Hemolytic anemias
2. Disorders of hemostasis
3. Disorders of bone marrow failure
4. Hematological disorders treated by bone marrow or stem cell transplantation.
-Adding a new listing called “Repeated Complications of Hematological Disorders”
Comments on the SSA’s proposed changes to hematological disorder listings are due by January 21, 2014.
